You’ve been a school administrator, but you still want to do more to impact your community, to give every student the opportunity to thrive. Â鶹´«Ã½ Fox’s Professional Administrative License (ProAL) program is designed for school administrators who have already earned a Principal License and want to become a district-level administrator. The program is made up of 15 core semester credits and three credits of practicum.

Why Earn Your License at Â鶹´«Ã½ Fox?

woman attends in-person class session For a start, we offer a fully online program, allowing busy administrators the opportunity to earn their ProAL from any location. We also offer hybrid courses that meet primarily online, with students attending one Saturday session per term in either Portland or Newberg, Oregon. Distance options may be available for students unable to attend in person.

From a professional standpoint, earning your Principal License not only prepares you for your future as an administrator, it positions you to earn your doctorate in education. Â鶹´«Ã½ Fox students with administrative licenses can transfer up to 12 credits from their course work into our Doctor of Education program as concentration credits. Those who are non-administrators can also take advantage of this benefit, as they may transfer up to six credits of relevant post-masters coursework as elective credit into our EdD program.

Finally, you get the benefit of working with an Oregon university and with instructors who know Oregon educational contexts. Our full-time faculty and adjunct professors have experiences in educational leadership and expertise in content areas outside of the classroom setting.

Program Overview

This 18-hour professional administrative licensure program is designed to match experienced practitioner mentors with experienced administrator candidates. The course work may be taken as a stand-alone program or embedded within the Doctor of Education (EdD) degree as the P-12 Administration Concentration.

The program director will facilitate a self-assessment of current skills, at the building and district level, to enable the candidate to demonstrate and document the advanced competencies listed in OAR 584-017-0261.

As we are an Oregon-based program, we are aware of local and state issues and contexts. You can be sure you will be kept abreast of educational developments as you pursue your studies.

Practicum Experience

The two semesters of practicum have three components. Practicum experiences may begin at the completion of at least three of the four core classes, or concurrently with the core in the cohort format, or on the approval of the program director for candidates who are assigned half-time administrator positions.

The university supervisor and site mentors will meet to verify the candidate's demonstration and documentation of the following knowledge, skills, and competencies listed in TSPC’s Oregon Administrative Rules.

The critical thinking emphasis at Â鶹´«Ã½ Fox in a collaborative, supportive learning environment equipped me with a solid foundation to begin my work as a new principal. I experienced professors that were rigorous, engaging and innovative, but above all, they were passionate about my individual development as a leader. Thank you, Â鶹´«Ã½ Fox!
