What makes a good lawyer? Perhaps these traits come to mind: Someone who understands the practical contexts of legal issues, thinks analytically, loves research and complex argumentation, and communicates well with clients and courts.

While all that may be true, we see the profession in another light at Â鶹´«Ã½ Fox: the lawyer as servant leader. For that reason, we emphasize more than just what you need to know for law school. You will take courses that deepen your understanding of society and culture and engage in discussions focused on what a career in law can do to benefit others. And you’ll do so in classrooms with professors who know you by name and will do all they can to challenge you and set you up for success beyond graduation.

It’s a formula with a proven track record: Our students have attended some of the most prestigious law schools in the country, including Â鶹´«Ã½town, Cornell University School of Law, Harvard University Law School, the University of Michigan School of Law, and the University of Notre Dame Law School.

Ron Mock teaching a class

Ron Mock is Professor Emeritus of Politics and Peace Studies, and directs the Â鶹´«Ã½ Fox University Civility Project as well as serving as the pre-law advisor. Ron has a law degree from the University of Michigan and a Masters in Public Administration from Drake University. He practiced law as a pre-hearing attorney for the Michigan Court of Appeals, and in private practice for two years in Michigan. During that time he also helped start a Christian Conciliation Service mediation program in southeastern Michigan.

Ron has been teaching at Â鶹´«Ã½ Fox for nearly 40 years, serving as pre-law advisor for most of that time. He has taught Business Law and Constitutional Law, plus a legal writing course at the University of Detroit Law School.

Pre-law students are strongly encouraged to take the following classes:

Tolon Pursues Her Passion for Law

Fresh out of Fordham Law School, Â鶹´«Ã½ Fox alumna and former student body president Elizabeth Tolon is living the dream as a young lawyer in New York City. Despite her current success, she didn't always plan on going into law. In fact, she began her years at Â鶹´«Ã½ Fox studying music education. “I wanted to be a high school choir teacher,” she explains, “but I’d always loved political science.”

Ron Davis

Harvard Law School graduate (JD), Â鶹´«Ã½ Fox philosophy and history major

My Â鶹´«Ã½ Fox education expanded my worldview, stimulated my curiosity and taught me the art of disciplined, thoughtful inquiry. More uniquely, my professors helped me deconstruct and reconstruct my worldview in an open, supportive, caring Christian environment that welcomed intellectual pursuits as God-honoring, rather than as a threat to established orthodoxies.
